Clapshot

serves four
Ingredients:
  • 1 lb (450g) potato, boiled
  • 1 lb (450g) turnips, boiled
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped chives
  • salt & freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 oz (50 g) butter or margarine
  • note: I like to also add 1 or 2 carrots for colour
Directions:

Boil the potatoes and turnips (and carrots) separately and let them dry in a colander over the stove. Then mash them together with the butter or margarine ensuring an even mix, stir in the chopped chives, season to taste, put into a hot dish and serve very hot. This is traditionally served with Haggis.
